Hampton Office Moving to Newport News - 1/30/2023

Hampton, Va. (January 2, 2023) – After more than 40 years of service in Hampton, Virginia, the Center for Child & Family Services is moving its headquarters to Newport News, Virginia., on January 30, 2023. The Hampton office will be closed for in person client services from January 23-27, 2023.

CCFS’ current office location at 2021 Cunningham Drive, Ste 400, Hampton Virginia, is being demolished in early 2023, prompting the relocation to 739 Thimble Shoals Blvd., Suite 400, Newport News, Virginia 23606. 757-838-1960 (phone) 757-838-3280 (fax)

“We look forward to continuing to provide all our comprehensive programs and services at our new location, which is centrally located on the Virginia Peninsula for easy access to clients and community partners,” said CCFS Executive Director Michael Edmonds. “Our goal is to limit any inconvenience to our clients, community partners, staff, and volunteers as much as possible. During the move, we will continue to provide services via in-person, tele-counseling, and by phone to limit disruptions.”

Founded in 1943, the CCFS, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service organization focused on providing behavioral, mental health, and financial counseling services to children, adults, and families.

Beacon Program Launch

The Center for Child & Family Services is honored to receive funding from The Bernardine Franciscan Sister’s Foundation  to provide counseling services to clients and employees of local nonprofits from Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Gloucester County and York County who have been effected by COVID 19 and/or social unrest.  Many in our community have been adversely affected by our current social stressors and cannot afford to seek counseling and support.  The Foundation has had the foresight to see the need in our community and we are excited to serve those in need and help them navigate the storms of changing times.

Give Local 757 Online Fundraiser Raised $2,210 for the Center for Child & Family Services Programs

The Give Local 757 event was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2020. THe event was a 24 hour online fundraiser benefitting local charities. The Center for Child & Family Services thanks all of the donors for participating. We are humbled that $2,210 was donated to benefit CCFS programs and services.

Holiday Light Stroll Raises $25,000 for CCFS PROGRAMS

On November 26th, 2019, the Center for Child & Family Services hosted their 7th Annual Holiday Light Stroll at Newport News City Park. The Holiday Light Stroll is a charity walk 'one night only' through the world famous Newport News Celebration in Lights. 100% of the proceeds raised from the events benefits CCFS’ 20+ programs and this year, $25,000 was raised! Thank you to all of the sponsors and participants. We will see you in 2020!

The 8TH Annual JACOBS Charity Golf Tournament Raises $40,000 for CCFS

The Center for Child & Family Services is honored to announce that the 8th Annual Jacobs Golf Tournament raised $40,000 for CCFS. The Center would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jacobs and all of the incredible sponsors, players and volunteers. Thank you!

Weekend Training Chicago Public Schools on PATTS

Our PATTS (Peaceful Alternatives To Tough Situations) program is for youth anger management. The Center’s very own Ellen Williams, Clinical Director and Director of Behavioral Health and Ann Marie Long, PATTS Training Consultant spent the weekend training Chicago Public Schools on this program.

The CCFS is Awarded a 2019 Impact 100 Grant

The Center for Child & Family Services is pleased to announce that we were awarded the Impact 100 grant to provide counseling, life skills building, emergency housing and case management to youth between the ages of 17 and 25 who are leaving foster care or incarceration. Statistics show that youth that 36% of youth who leave foster care or incarceration will become homeless, 56% will be unemployed and 27% will end up in jail. 

Thank you Impact 100 for your support of these youth in our community and offering the opportunity to have hope in their future. 

All services are offered to residents of Hampton and Newport News, free and we are accepting referrals by calling 838-1960 and ask for the Launch program coordinator.

CCFS is Awarded the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Victim Witness Program New Initiative Grant 

This funding will provide trauma informed counseling, case management, community outreach to youth and education to youth between the ages of 12 and 25 who have been a victim of a crime. Research shows that adolescents have a higher rate of being victims of crime than adults but only 38% will report the crime to the authorities or adults as compared to 51% of adults. 

Crimes could include cyber bullying, assault, robbery, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, hate crimes, harassment and for Spanish speaking immigrants it includes crimes experienced in their native country. Services are offered in English and Spanish to residents in Hampton, Newport News, York, Williamsburg and James City County. All services are free and we are accepting referrals by calling 838-1960 and ask for the Thrive program coordinator.

The Center for Child & Family Services is honored to elect three new board members to the Center's Board of Directors on August 31, 2016. 

Tanisha Baines, Budget Analyst with NASA Langley Research Center, M.B.A from the College of William and Mary and B.S. from Christopher Newport University

Dustin Stokes, Chief Technology Officer with Atlas Systems, Inc., M.S. and B.A. from Christopher Newport University

Todd Halacy, Assistant Division Administrator with the Virginia Department of Transportation, M.B.A. from the College of William & Mary and a B.S. from Old Dominion University

The Board of Directors of the Center for Child & Family Services is comprised of 16 diverse community volunteer members of the board of directors who have a vast array of experiences from legal, accounting, finance and banking, small business, government, counseling and marketing.

We welcome the three new members to the volunteer board of directors and we greatly appreciate their dedication to help us serve thousands of people each year on the Virginia Peninsula.
