About Behavioral Health Services

Behavioral Health Services is a program of the Center for Child & Family Services in Newport News, Virginia. The Center, which was established in 1943, is a comprehensive provider of trauma informed counseling services to children, adults, and families. The Behavioral Health Services program has been designed to help you or someone you know face the problems of daily life and find solutions to those problems. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for each individual or family.

The Center has a proven track record of providing high quality confidential counseling services. Over the years, the Center has developed and maintained active and strong working relationships with other key human service providers in the area to ensure that each individual received the best and most appropriate services possible.

The Center serves all individuals regardless of race, color, religion creed, gender, national origin, age, disability or sexual orientation. No one is turned away at the Center due to their inability to pay for services. The Center accepts most major health insurances and has a sliding fee scale for those individuals who do not have health insurance.

We recognize that there are many different types of problems individuals are facing in their daily lives. As a result, the Center has gathered some of the finest therapists in the area to provide trauma informed counseling services offered in all of the Centers programs. These therapists have advanced degrees in counseling and social work, and are licensed by the state of Virginia.

  • Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
